Introduction

Welcome to Madison Remix 9U, where we’re gearing up for an exciting second season of travel baseball in Madison, Alabama! This is going to be the biggest jump in our kids’ baseball life. As we step up to kid-pitch at the 9U level, our focus remains on elevating the baseball experience beyond recreational leagues, fostering skill development, teamwork, and a deep love for the game. As head coach and a passionate baseball advocate, I’m thrilled to guide our players—including my two boys—through this dynamic new chapter. Our team offers a supportive, competitive, and fun environment for young athletes to learn to play the sport the right way.

Important: We fully support our players’ participation in Fall sports, like my kids who are playing flag football and martial arts this Fall, and our flexible Fall schedule reflects this with mostly optional practices. Read more on the schedule below.

Schedule

As noted above, the Fall will focus more on development and scrimmages, while Spring will be a full-fledged competitive season where baseball will be the focus.

Fall: Development and Team Bonding

In the Fall, we focus on skill-building and game experience to prepare for kid-pitch at the 9U level. Weekly practices are optional to accommodate other sports, with days adjusted to ensure no player consistently misses out. Every 2-3 weeks, we’ll hold a mandatory full-team practice to maintain cohesion. To give players ample kid-pitch and positional reps, we’ll prioritize scrimmages over traditional practices, offering many chances to pitch and play non-primary positions against quality competition. I believe that at this age enabling kids to get reps at many positions is critical for baseball IQ development, and it will show in our scrimmages and even in tournaments. We will have at least 1 and at most 2 tournaments in the Fall, and those tournaments will be on Sunday because I love Fall Saturdays.

Spring: Competitive Season

Spring is our primary competitive season, kicking off with optional indoor practices in mid-January at facilities like HIITS or Madison Sports Academy. By mid-February, we’ll shift to twice-weekly outdoor practices, weather permitting. We will play 6-9 tournaments throughout the season, depending on rainouts, which were brutal this past Spring. This schedule aims to provide more games than the rec league but with the flexibility of a club team, allowing us complete control of the cadence and frequency of baseball in our busy lives. We will also play more scrimmages than last year to ensure everyone gets reps pitching against quality competition and ensure players get reps in non-primary positions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Fields are scarce at our age due to the number of teams. I have locked in a Bob Jones field for every Tuesday of the Spring. Every school field in Madison was claimed for every weekday by August, which was crazy to me. It mattered last year, and it will matter even more this year with the addition of 2 new teams in our area.

Team Formation

After tryouts, our first practice will be in late July, bringing the team together to foster friendships and set the tone for a fun, supportive season. We’re excited to build a tight-knit team that grows together.

Philosophy

Our team will prioritize player development and the enjoyment of the game. We will teach them the strategy of the game, helping kids learn WHEN is the right time to steal a base. Rather than simply instructing players, I will demonstrate techniques and guide them in appropriate detail to field ground balls and fly balls with the same mechanics they’ll need as they grow older. I will demonstrate and teach the optimal mechanics of baserunning to make sure we wreak havoc on teams using our athleticism. As an instructional coach, I delve into the details of nearly every aspect of baseball, fostering an environment where attentive and eager players can thrive.

Ensuring that baseball remains fun is paramount. My greatest fear is my boys losing interest because they aren’t enjoying themselves. I will make practices engaging and enjoyable for all players, balancing fundamental drills with exciting activities to maintain interest and enthusiasm. Our points based hitting game is legendary.

Moreover, I aim to build a close team by recruiting committed families alongside talented players. The vision is for our players to grow together into a cohesive group of well trained baseball players, driven by strong, consistent relationships and mutual support. Being a great teammate is a lifelong skill, and I’d love to help your child hone this skill.

Cost

The Remix organization is a non-profit organization and will not be making money off the team. Overall, our team’s expenses will be lower than those of major travel organizations.

Uniforms will cost around $100 for jerseys plus pants and accessories. Fees are used to cover tournaments, field rentals, indoor facility rentals, equipment for practices, etc.

Fall Fees: $200 per player

Spring Fees: $400 per player
